Where is Almandine found?
Almandine occurs in large amounts in the rock-strewn gem areas of Sri Lanka. Large deposits of Almandine were also found some years back in Australia. In United States also there are a number of localities that yield Almandine. Its other sources include India, Madagascar, China, and Brazil.

Metaphysical Properties
Almandine is a mineral belonging to the Garnet group. It is an iron aluminium silicate, and it has derived its name from a town situated in Asia Minor. The stone’s name is the corrupted form of Alabandicus, which is a stone found in Alabanda in Asia Minor.
There are very few varieties of Almandine crystals that are see-through or transparent, and light enough to be used in jewellery; however most of the Almandine found is coarse and opaque and is not of gem quality.
Often entrenched in Mica schist, Almandine shapes very fine pieces of the matrix with flawlessly formed symmetrical crystals. However due to weathering, sometimes this Mica schist breaks resulting in loose Almandine crystals, which are called as floater crystals that can possibly be large in size.
Almandine has a good hardness of 7.5 to 8.5 on Moh’s scale.
